Asbestos Removal
Many Michigan homes and commercial buildings built before 1980 contain asbestos in insulation, floor tiles, ceiling textures, and pipe wrap. Undisturbed asbestos is typically not an immediate hazard, but renovation, storm damage, or aging can release microscopic fibers that cause serious lung disease.
Revive Restoration handles asbestos abatement under full EPA and MIOSHA containment protocols. Our certified team seals off affected areas, wets materials to suppress fiber release, removes and double-bags all asbestos-containing materials, and disposes of them at a licensed facility, keeping your family safe throughout.
Step by Step
Our Asbestos Abatement Process
Suspect materials are sampled and sent to an accredited lab for confirmation before any work begins. We identify the full scope, insulation, floor tiles, ceiling textures, pipe wrap, and document findings.
The work zone is sealed with polyethylene sheeting and placed under negative air pressure. HVAC systems are shut off to prevent fiber migration. Only certified crew in full PPE and respirators enter.
Asbestos-containing materials are thoroughly wetted before removal to suppress airborne fiber release, a requirement under EPA NESHAP regulations. No dry-breaking or cutting of ACMs is performed.
All removed asbestos materials are double-bagged in labeled, six-mil poly bags and sealed immediately. Bags are moved through the containment decontamination unit to the disposal container outside.
All surfaces inside the containment are HEPA-vacuumed and wet-wiped before the area is cleared. Air monitoring confirms fiber levels are below clearance thresholds before containment comes down.
Waste is transported to and disposed of at a Michigan-licensed hazardous waste facility in full compliance with EPA and MIOSHA regulations. Documentation is provided for your records and insurance.

Learn MoreYou cannot identify asbestos by sight alone, laboratory testing of a material sample is the only reliable method. Homes built before 1980 are most likely to contain asbestos in pipe insulation, floor tiles, popcorn ceilings, attic insulation, and roofing shingles. If you are planning a renovation and your home is pre-1980, testing before disturbing any materials is strongly recommended.
Asbestos that is in good condition and not disturbed does not typically release fibers and poses low immediate risk. The danger arises when asbestos-containing materials are damaged, deteriorating, or disturbed by renovation or demolition, which releases microscopic fibers into the air. Our inspectors assess the condition of suspect materials and advise whether abatement, encapsulation, or monitoring is the right approach.
Inhaled asbestos fibers lodge permanently in lung tissue and can cause mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer, diseases that often do not appear until 20–50 years after exposure. There is no safe level of asbestos exposure. The EPA and OSHA mandate licensed abatement for any disturbed asbestos-containing materials to protect building occupants and workers.
Michigan homeowners are legally permitted to remove asbestos from their own single-family residence in limited cases, but it is strongly discouraged. Without the proper PPE (full respirator, Tyvek suit, disposable gloves), negative-air containment, and licensed disposal access, DIY removal creates serious health and legal liability. A licensed abatement contractor is always the safer and often more cost-effective choice.
Standard homeowners policies typically exclude asbestos removal as a pollution event unless the asbestos was disturbed by a covered sudden loss, for example, a contractor accidentally breaking through asbestos-wrapped pipes during covered repair work. Coverage varies significantly by policy. Revive documents findings thoroughly and works with your adjuster to support any available claim.
A typical residential asbestos abatement project takes 1–3 days for the physical removal work, plus time for pre-work testing (2–5 business days for lab results) and post-clearance air monitoring. We provide a complete timeline and scope before work begins. Larger commercial projects or whole-building abatements are scoped individually.
